I am a developer: what should the animal by-laws for my new building say?





As a developer of a new strata building you will be interested in achieving pre-sales and putting in place a well structured management regime for your new owners.

Unless you intend building and marketing a pet free building (which is rare) or unless the relevant planning instrument or development consent prohibits pets (which is also rare) you will achieve both objectives by putting in place by-laws which permit pets.

If in doubt whether to allow or disallow pets, ask your sales team.  In almost all cases, a potential purchaser will ask “Can my pet come with me?” and not “ I will only buy if pets are prohibited”.
